Corralejo · Fuerteventura
The place
A one-bedroom apartment for two at the quiet southern end of Corralejo, on the ground floor of a low terracotta block inside the Oasis Tamarindo complex. Your own front door opens onto a covered terrace, and the terrace looks straight into palm gardens.
That terrace is the whole point. It is deep enough to be shaded through the afternoon, tiled, private, and furnished with a table and four chairs - so it works for breakfast, for lunch out of the sun, and for sitting out after dark with the garden lights on. No stairs, no lift, no balcony to climb up to.
Inside, it is one double bedroom, a bathroom, a galley kitchen that is properly fitted rather than token, and a living room with two sofas and a dining table for four. Tiled floors and shutters on the windows keep it cool without air conditioning.
The complex around you does the heavy lifting: a large outdoor pool with sun beds, palm gardens threaded with paths, two tennis courts, a beach volleyball court and free parking. Supermarkets, cafes, bars and two of the island's best sports shops are next door.
Room by room

Your own entrance, under cover, with a table and four chairs and the gardens a step away. Shaded for most of the day, which in Fuerteventura matters more than a sun trap does. Lit at night, and quiet - this side of the complex faces inward, away from any road.

Two sofas rather than one, arranged around a low table, with a dining table for four at the far end. A tall window with shutters brings in light without the heat. WiFi throughout.

A galley, and a genuinely usable one: granite worktops, a full oven and four-ring hob, extractor, microwave, fridge and a coffee machine. There is a washing machine in here too, which is the difference between a week and a fortnight.

A short walk through the gardens from your terrace. Large, open all year, with sun beds around it. Two tennis courts and a beach volleyball court are in the same grounds, and the planting between the blocks is mature enough to feel like somewhere rather than a car park with palms.
What's included
Everything here is included in the nightly rate. If something you need isn't on the list, ask - it is easier to answer honestly than to have you arrive and find out.
Corralejo was a fishing town. It still behaves like one after dark.
The old harbour is a twenty-minute walk from the door - low white buildings, boats pulled up on the sand, and the small restaurants along Calle La Iglesia that locals still eat in. The bigger, brasher end of town is further north, and easy to avoid.
